Charlie Clifford founded Tumi and served as CEO for many years before heading up the company’s international business. A true entrepreneur, Charlie launched Tumi with a partner in 1975 as an importer of leather bags from Colombia with a total investment of $10,000. Today, Tumi is widely considered to be the market leader in premium luggage, business cases, and related accessories. The brand is sold in over 70 countries and has a dedicated following among frequent travelers, including business executives and professionals, famous athletes, and celebrities from the sports and entertainment world. After going public in 2012, the company was purchased by Samsonite in 2016 for about $1.8 billion.

Clifford graduated from Indiana University in 1965 with a BA in English and earned his MBA in marketing from Indiana’s Kelley School of Business in 1967. He then spent two years in Peru as part of an experimental Peace Corps MBA program, working as a consultant with small businesses and assisting government agencies with economic development projects. In 1975, after working as a marketing director for an industrial equipment company, he started Tumi and named the company after a Peruvian Pre-Colombian god which was the symbol of the region where he lived while serving in the Peace Corps.

After retiring from Tumi in 2004, Clifford consulted with various companies in the leather goods sector as a principal at Compass Partners International, a management firm which partnered with international brands to develop their business in the U.S. market.  Now, he serves as a founding partner of ROAM, a premium luggage brand with the thoughtful kind of design and premium materials on which Clifford insists for the brands he spearheads. What sets this new brand apart is a groundbreaking concept for the luggage industry. ROAM allows customers to uniquely express themselves by designing their own luxury luggage - from the color of the case itself, to wheels, trim and zippers, and each piece is then made-to-order in the U.S.A.

Clifford is a member of the President’s Circle at ACCION International and the Dean’s Council of the Kelley School of Business. Clifford also served on the Board of Directors for the Travel Goods Association from 1996 to 2003, and was formerly a Board Director at Aid to Artisans, a non-profit organization which helps artisans in developing countries access the U.S. market for their handcrafted products.

In 2009, Clifford was named as the Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year by the Kelley School. He was recognized in 2005 by the Travel Goods Association for excellence and outstanding contributions to the travel goods industry and was a past recipient of the President’s Award from the American Luggage Dealer’s Association and the Key Resource Award from the National Luggage Dealer’s Association.

Best known as the first (and so far only) woman to row solo across the world’s “Big Three” oceans - the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian - Rosalind Savage inspires us to think again about what is possible, and encourages us to step up fully into the potential of our highest selves.

After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in law, Roz spent the first eleven years of her career working as a management consultant, braving nothing more intrepid than rush hour on the London Underground, before an environmental epiphany led to a radical personal transformation into a world class adventurer.

During the seven years of her ocean rowing career, Roz Savage had more chance than most to explore the far horizons of courage. Spending up to five months alone at sea on a 23-foot rowboat, thousands of miles from land and humanity, at the mercy of winds, waves and currents, she evolved from a nervous novice adventurer into the world's foremost female ocean rower.

While crossing a total of fifteen thousand miles of ocean she had to redefine her comfort zone on a daily basis, and reach deep into her inner sources of strength, self-discipline, and commitment to her goal. Designer, entrepreneur, best-selling author, and mother of five, India Hicks was born in London, England, and comes from both British and design royalty. Her father was famed interior decorator, David Hicks, and her mother is Lady Pamela Hicks, whose father was the last Viceroy of India, hence her name.

India has always made bold life choices, which have led to a multi-faceted, unexpected life journey. She has authored four design books, modeled for Ralph Lauren, among others, and been an on-air personality for networks ranging from Bravo to the BBC. She has had her hand in the design world for over two decades - from hotels to home collections.

In 2015 India launched her eponymous Direct Sales brand. British Heritage and a fresh perspective on island life informed this exclusive lifestyle collection. Despite closing its doors after 5 years of trading, thousands of women saw talents and qualities in themselves that had been undiscovered.

More recently India launched a Podcast series - a look into the life of her extraordinary mother Lady Pamela - recording wonderfully intimate conversations between mother and daughter. With over 100,000 downloads already, the Podcast repeatedly sits at the top of many charts.

The India Hicks company had a strong focus on Giving Back as has India herself. Having run 3 marathons in aid of Bahamian children's education and cycling two 100 mile races raising funds for breast cancer in the Bahamas - a cause close to her heart as this disease took the life of her adopted son's mother.

Living in the Bahamas for the past 25 years India is in the position to now partner with Global Empowerment Mission as an on the ground force, brining awareness to the continuing crisis in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

On this episode, India shares her one way ticket on a sailboat that continuously sails around the world. She also reflects on traveling through the country for which she is named, the status of recovery in the Bahamas since Hurricane Dorian struck, the importance of humor in life & design, and her favorite memory of Diana, Princess of Wales for whom she was a bridesmaid.
